This box set is a good value - eight books for about $23. However, the box they come in is disappointing. It is made of very thin paperboard, and is almost half an inch too wide for the books it contains. As a result, the sides bowed in when it was shrink-wrapped, and are still somewhat bent and curved in after being unwrapped. If you think the books are a good value by themselves, you probably won't be disappointed, but if you are looking for the added value of a nice box in which to store them, keep looking. But right from the start of the second book, the author continues the same delicious descriptions of the 19th century setting on Prince Edward Island and the classic characters and events of Anne and the people in her community. Although I am approaching 60, I missed out on these wonderful stories and am thrilled to discover them at this time in my life. ( Reviewed in the United States on December 3, 2016 )

I got this for my hubby at Christmas who is currently engrossed in the first book, he tells me it is just like the series (though it is of course the series is true to the book), he’s enjoying it as he’s reliving the programme in his head as he reads. It’s a great story of Anne, based in Canada and her life, with its ups and many downs, Anne’s bright spirit and bold endeavours see her through. But, for some reason, as a grandfather of 79 I decided to try it and was immediately caught up in it. Both my daughters chatted from the moment they were born, or so it seemed, and the depiction of Anne chattering away for page after page brought it all back. There are significant differences between these original stories and the new TV series, Anne with an E, although I can see why the TV versions have been updated to be more inclusive.
